Security Chief
Lt. Commander
Qora
Bigendered, Late 20’s
Orion
Role: Qora is the Chief Security Officer, Bridge Tactical Officer and Hazard Team Leader. As Security Chief, she is responsible for the internal security of the Enterprise. As Bridge Tactical Officer, she operates the ship’s defenses and weapons in combat. As Hazard Team Leader, it is her duty to lead the response to any dangerous accident or incident that may occur, as well ensuring the safety of the civilian scientists on their away missions.
She is also the Second Officer, 3rd in the chain of command behind Cmdr. Daystrom.
Like all Orions, Qora has superior strength and agility and has amazing regenerative abilities (these traits are stronger in Avunari Orions). Theoretically, an Orion could survive any wound as long as their cell regeneration stays active. This makes her well-suited to her multiple roles of Security Chief and Hazard Team Leader.
History: Qora was born on Orion but is an outcast from Orion society – one of the “unknown”. Orion society is heavily divided between male and female. 10% of Orions are born like her “Avunari” (the “third kind”) – of male gender but with female secondary sex characteristics. The Avunari are essential to the Orion reproductive cycle. They were secreted away and kept in captivity, raised and trained to breed. But some refuse and those that do faced becoming an “unknown” – permanent exile. Qora refused to breed and was branded with the mark of the “unknown” on her temple and made to vow to life a solitary life under threat of death from Orion Honor Killers.
After being exiled, Qora drifted for years, ashamed of what she was, angry at her parents and her people, and afraid of being tracked down and killed. She met a Starfleet officer who caught her stealing and took a liking to her. The officer encouraged her to enroll in Starfleet Academy, which she initially resisted, but finally enlisted out of desperation. During her time in the Academy, she could not hide her gender and as she learned more about her own people’s history and the vast biological variety of the galaxy, she came to terms with what she was and found she was proud of her body.
Qora found that her greater strength, dexterity and regenerative abilities, combined with her pent-up aggression, made her well-suited at combat duty and she quickly specialized in security and tactical training. She is adept with hand to hand combat, melee weapon combat and energy weapons. She is a natural leader and is not afraid to go into combat or make tough decisions. Her goal is to someday be a captain of her own ship, though she will have to learn to better manage her aggression and eagerness to rush into conflict.
Prior to being assigned to the Enterprise, Qora was the a senior security officer assigned to the adjunct Starfleet detail on space station Deep Space B-7, known for its unruly outpost atmosphere and self-administered justice. Qora learned to deal with species from all over the Galaxy there.
Personality: She has a very short temper and can seem humorless at times. The one thing that annoys Qora most is being mistaken for an Orion Slave Girl. Her people see the Orion Syndicate and slave traders as low-class criminals. She has been known to deck anyone who requests a “Slave Girl Dance” from her. Qora does not dance.
Relationships: Since she has only just met the Enterprise crew, Qora keeps her rare gender a secret from them, having found that sexually dimorphous species tend to have trouble coping with it. They are often uncomfortable around her or objectify her. She is not ashamed of her gender, she just wants to avoid awkward conversations. Qora keeps to herself, never fraternizing with the rest of the crew. She makes it seem like this is out of professional detachment, but it’s also largely due to her fear of rejection. She’s always seen as very tough and strong – self-assured and in command. The only person she shows any insecurity around or deference to is the Captain, because it’s extremely important for her to prove herself to him.
