Sciences Director (Civilian)
Lexia
Female, Early 30’s
Deltan
Role: While Cole Weston directs the expedition, he is an explorer, not a scientist. Lexia is responsible for directing what scientific data is collected and how it is collected. She oversees the division heads of each scientific department (life sciences, planetary sciences, chemistry, astrophysics) and will often go into the field herself in the E.M.E.V. (Extended Mission Expeditionary Vessel – see section below on The Ship).
History: Lexia was born on the tropical world of Delta IV in a society that values the arts and science above all else. Lexia was a science prodigy and graduated from the Deltan Science Academy with the highest honors, two years early. From there she went on to the Federation Academy of the Sciences and became a leading student researcher. Lexia traveled all over the Milky Way studying rare and cutting-edge astrophysical phenomena. While studying abroad on a distant planet, she discovered her true calling – xenobiology. Turning down an invitation from Cole Weston to join his private exploration vessel, Lexia started her own laboratory for the study of biodiversity in the Milky Way which has catalogued over 20 trillion species of life.
Now Lexia is the foremost Xenobiologist in the Federation. She could not turn down the offer to lead the science expedition on the USS Enterprise in the Andromeda Galaxy and to discover a whole new galaxy of wonders.
Personality: Lexia is an accomplished academic, but has never served on a starship in regular duty before. She is a bit uninformed about starship duty and has a tendency to be dismissive and cavalier about Starfleet protocol. A bit of an over-achiever, Lexia is very upfront about what she wants and has no hesitation going after it.
Lexia has an insatiable curiosity; nothing excites her more than discovery. She is filled with awe and wonder at the vastness and diversity of the universe. Lexia’s nature is that of a novelty seeker. She is always looking for new experiences and will try anything once. Some may feel she is a bit too idealistic and optimistic about life, but she is not naïve.
She has an easy grace and an open, joyful personality. She has a love for life and revels in all sensory pleasures – food, nature, art, music and sex. Her six senses are all far more sensitive than the human norm.
She is also a touch empath and can feel what others feel on touch as well as transmit feelings and sensations to others through her touch. With other empathic or telepathic people (like Joli), she can communicate telepathically through touch.
Relationships: She is attracted to Cole Weston and they have had a sexual relationship in the past. The attraction is mutual, but Lexia, like all Deltans, is polyamorous and had no interest in a monogamous relationship with Cole. Cole felt used and betrayed when she wouldn’t go with him to explore the Milky Way after he resigned from Starfleet.
Being a Deltan, she is a highly sexual being. This does make her sexually frustrated as holodeck sex is unfulfilling to Deltans (much of their sexual experiences being telepathic) and sex with alien species in Andromeda is frowned upon by Starfleet (though it may happen). Her culture also has no taboos about nudity and she is most comfortable relaxing nude, but is aware this makes some others uncomfortable.
Starfleet has rescinded the celibacy mandate for Deltan crew members. Unlike the more conservative members of her people, she has no compunctions about having casual, uncomplicated sex with other species, though she finds the feelings of jealousy that can arise in the crew unfortunate. She is aware that many of the crew are attracted to her and is careful to handle these feelings with respect.
Like most Deltans, she is pansexual and polyamorous. Many Deltans bond in “group marriages” or “chains of love” where one person’s partner may also be the partner of another, who may also have several other partners. Child rearing duties are shared by the entire extended family and Deltans tend to have very large, vaguely delimited families.
