Helmsman/Navigator
Ensign
Viin
Female, Early-20’s
Romulan/Terran (Caucasian)
Role: Viin is a young officer with a keen ability for spatial math and is an expert helmsman. She is responsible for navigating through the uncharted Andromeda galaxy, ready for any anomalies that may appear. She aids Cole in mapping what they explore.
History: After the defeat and dissolution of the Romulan Empire, Romulans became scattered and nomadic. Viin comes from a tribe of lighter-complexioned Romulans who have abandoned their old, Imperial ways and have embraced change. They settled in a series of colonies in the Romulan Neutral Zone and eventually applied for entry into the Federation. They believe in peace and exploration and have rededicated themselves to discovery and hypermathematics.
Against her parents’ wishes, she left home as early as she could and enrolled in Starfleet, wanting to escape her “boring” home colony and see the galaxy. She has a serious case of wanderlust.
Being of Vulcanoid blood, Viin should have the potential for telepathy. Unfortunately, despite repeated testing, she has never shown any aptitude for it, making her feel inadequate.
Personality: Viin is very outgoing and friendly and more than willing to chime in with her opinion, even if it wasn’t necessarily requested or relevant. Like all Vulcanoid races, she has very strong emotions and has a tendency to let them get the better of her, being still young and untrained in mental discipline.
She wants nothing more than to prove herself, feeling she is a representative for her kind. She puts a little too much pressure on herself, though, and can sometimes crack under the pressure. Has a tendency to talk too much when she’s nervous.
Viin has a cynical outlook on life. She believes life comes in all shapes and sizes and finds humanoids to be biased in what they consider “intelligent” life (often feels humanoids don’t quite qualify for that title). She thinks the Federation probably has imperialistic designs on the Andromeda galaxy, a view which others feel is naively cynical (but isn’t entirely wrong).
Viin has a mischievous side to her as well.
Relationships: Despite her outgoing, lively personality, she often feels like a misfit among the crew and doubts her worthiness to be on the mission, even though she tested higher than any other candidate for her position.
She will become good friends with Lexia, who sees her as a kindred spirit and will take her under her wing as a sort of “little sister”.
While Nic Batista initially has a bit of a crush on Viin, she sees him more as a friend, like a brother.
Viin sees ASH as a sentient being, or a being with the potential for sentience and is the first one to treat him as such, to Daystrom’s annoyance. She encourages ASH to expand his consciousness and exercise his free will.
Viin also undergoes pon farr for the first time on the Enterprise and is ill-prepared for it.
