Role: Dr. Daystrom is a highly accomplished computer engineer and the foremost expert on the systems of the new Perseus-class intergalactic ships, being its chief architect. He is responsible for the functioning of all of the ship’s computer systems and is intimately familiar with them.
Daystrom is also the inventor of the wrist-worn MultiFunction Interface Devices worn by the crew. These devices provide holographic communication, holographic interfaces and constant biomedical monitoring. Daystrom has these capabilities implanted directly in him rather than wearing them.
Marcus Daystrom is the Executive Officer of the Enterprise, second in command to Captain Vega. Through the ship’s systems, Daystrom can monitor anyone at any time. When this is revealed, many in the crew find it unsettling, but he insists it’s for the maximum efficiency and safety of the ship and that it is for informational purposes only, not for personal reasons.

History: Daystrom is keenly aware of his legacy. His great-grandfather was the Richard Daystrom who invented duotronics and whose subsequently disastrous test run of the faulty M-5 caused the deaths of hundreds of Starfleet personnel. Daystrom hopes this mission will finally restore the luster to his family name after so many years.
Personality: Daystrom is a genius and an absolute workaholic, but is also his own harshest critic. This dedication and seriousness can sometimes wear Marcus down dangerously, harming his health. Often unwilling to delegate responsibility, he sometimes has to be ordered to take a break and rest.
He has a very logical, focused and analytical engineer's mind and sometimes has to be reminded to see things from another perspective. Often his own goals of developing newer and better technology do not align with the objectives of a mission and he has to be reminded to rein himself in and keep the priorities of the ship and the mission in mind.
Daystrom is a Bayesian – he believes that personal bias effects most people’s decision making negatively, so he strives to be as absolutely objective as possible. Probabilities and data drive his decisions exclusively. While he has emotions, he finds them inconvenient and tries to suppress them entirely. If he could, he would “program them out” of his brain. However, this lifestyle does leave him isolated and he finds himself sometimes lonely, and sometimes has obsessive thoughts about other members of the crew.
Daystrom is a Transhumanist. He has enhanced his mental abilities to their maximum capability using a wide array of technological brain implants that increase his computational abilities, gives him perfect memory, and allows him to network directly with the ship. He can perform ship tasks without having to use a manual interface can access all the ship’s databanks. Some worry that this gives him too much power over the ship.
Daystrom is constantly pushing himself, trying to make himself better. He continues to develop new enhancements to implant in himself. He has eliminated food as much as possible, living off a nutrient paste he developed. Some among the crew find his enhancements disturbing – reminiscent of the Borg. Subjugating his humanity in the pursuit of “perfection”.
Daystrom always offers his solutions with absolute certainty that they are the correct ones and is exasperated when the Captain doesn’t immediately take up his proposals. If he wasn’t such a competent genius, his overconfidence would be seen as arrogance.
Relationships: Qora finds him a security risk, wondering if he could be hacked. Dr. Joli tries to teach him about interpersonal relationships and being more of a manager of people than an operator of a machine.
He is the creator of NOMI, the ship’s AI system. Publically, he treats her like a machine. But he imbued her with a personality and privately she’s a sort of confidante to him. Others see his closeness to NOMI as problematic – bad for his own socialization or misplaced priorities.
As a response to the danger of away missions, Daystrom will create ASH - the Autonomous Security Hologram. This holographic crew member is programmed to protect the crew and deal quickly and dispassionately with any threats that may arise. ASH is also programmed to volunteer for dangerous duties if it may protect a living crew member. Daystrom considers ASH a simple tool, but as ASH grows and develops and starts to express independence, Daystrom is conflicted. On the one hand, he's disturbed by the idea of a program (something he considers "perfect") wishing to be more Human (something he considers flawed).
